How do we hear the voice of God in a noisy world?

We live surrounded by voices competing for our attention, loyalty, and trust. Some arrive through media, ambition, anxiety, or old stories we still carry. Others sound like wisdom but lead us away from the life of Christ.

Which voice is forming you?

This four-part series through 1 Corinthians asks how followers of Jesus learn to recognize and receive the voice of God. We listen through Scripture, attend to the fruit growing in our lives, learn from faithful Christians who have gone before us, and return again to Christ crucified: the living wisdom of God.

The Series

1. WHAT VOICE (IN)FORMS YOU?

Which voices receive your attention—and therefore your loyalty? 1 Corinthians 2:6–16

In a cacophonous world, Paul offers an astonishing promise: through the Holy Spirit, we have the mind of Christ. Hearing from God begins by naming the voices that shape us and learning to attend to the wisdom God has revealed in Scripture and made present in Christ.

2. FRUITFULNESS

How can we tell whether we are listening to the right voice? 1 Corinthians 3:1–15

The fruit of our lives reveals what is forming us. Love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control give us a concrete way to examine whether we are hearing God and taking faithful next steps.

3. LEARNING TO LISTEN

Who has helped you hear the voice of God? 1 Corinthians 4:1–17

God often teaches us to listen through Christians who have learned to live for an audience of One. Their faithfulness, humility, endurance, and joy help us hear beyond the noise and recognize the voice of Christ more clearly.

4. CHRIST, THE WISDOM OF GOD

What does the wisdom of God sound like? 1 Corinthians 1:18–25

Christian discernment comes full circle in Jesus Christ. The wisdom of God is not merely a principle or a technique; it is a living person, revealed most clearly in the cross. Christ calls us away from mastery and control into self-giving love.

Listening for the Voice of Christ

This series does not offer a formula for forcing quick answers from God. It invites us into a life of attentiveness: listening through Scripture, noticing the fruit of our lives, receiving wisdom from the community of faith, and keeping the crucified and risen Christ at the center.

The deepest question is not simply whether God is speaking, but whether we are becoming people ready to listen and respond.
