The Madeira-Silverwood Mission Committee is proud to support The Gideons International, a worldwide ministry of Christians who are dedicated to the idea of making the word of God available to everyone.
The Gideons International is an Association of Christian business and professional men and their wives dedicated to telling people about Jesus through associating together for service, sharing personal testimony, and by providing Bibles and New Testaments. While they are often recognized for their work with hotels, they also place and distribute Scriptures in strategic locations so they are available to those who want them, as well as to those who may not know they need them.
In addition to their ministry of distributing Bibles, the Gideons work to pray for and encourage pastors. A volunteer Gideon is assigned to each church in a given area, and that Gideon calls, visits with, prays for, and encourages the pastors of those churches. Additionally, the local Gideon camps host a Pastor Appreciation Dinner as another means of encouraging ministers. Pastor and Mrs. Smith participated in the 2023 Dinner and came away inspired and refreshed.
In September 2023, our Mission Committee received this encouraging note from one of our local Gideon volunteers: "Thank you for your gift ... to the Gideons. What a wonderful way to honor Christ. This is enough money to buy 100 full size Bibles ... We will put this money to work right away."
