Join us for our Summertime teaching series Rooted: The Values That Nourish Our Faith. This series arises from the work of our Elemental Churches team, which spent has spent the past year seeking God's guidance to clarify our values, our vision, and our calling as a church for the next few years.
Join us for these messages to get a better grasp on where our church community is going and to listen to the Holy Spirit for how you might be called to play a part in the work that God is doing among us.
June 30Â Â Introduction. We kick off the Rooted series with a special 10:00 AM Fifth Sunday worship service. Pastor Smith's message on Isaiah 61:1-9 will ground us in Isaiah's vision that God's people would become "oaks of righteousness".
July 7Â Scripture. We will explore John 5:16-40 and learn more about how the grace of Christ is the central truth of the Bible.
July 14  Discipleship. Jesus teaches the two great commandments as a summary of what it means to follow Him. We will look at Mark 12:28-34 and learn more about about loving God with our mind, will, and strengths.
July 21 Compassion. Jesus tells the parable of the Good Samaritan in Luke 10:25-37 as a way of illustrating how to live the two great commandments. We'll explore this parable and its challenge for us to offer encouragement and compassion for those who are hurting.
July 28 Family. The first great commandment's Old Testament origin is in Deuteronomy 6:1-9. We'll explore the commandment in context and discover how investing in family is a key component of our faith.
August 4Â Outreach. When Jesus calls followers, He equips them and sends them on mission to invite others to learn His ways. In this last message of the series, we'll examine Matthew 9:35-10:8 to explore our calling to share Christ through what we say, how we act, and who we are as a community.
As an addendum to the message on outreach, we will spend the following two Sundays celebrating the mission program of the church.
August 11 Outreach through World Mission. We will enjoy a special presentation from our missionary Dustin Ellington, who teaches at Arab Baptist Theological Seminary in Lebanon. Join us during the 10:00AM hour for a question and answer session with Dustin and our Mission Committee. Pastor Smith will preach about God's vision for the nations as presented in Isaiah 19:18-25
August 18 Outreach through Mission Trips. Join us as we celebrate our Family Ministry Mission Trip to Appalachia. We'll present slides and stories about the trip, and Pastor Smith will teach on Ephesians 4:25-32, which features this year's Appalachia Service Project theme verse: "Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ, God forgave you." (Ephesians 4:32). In this service, we will also feature our annual Backpack Blessing to start the 2024-2025 school year off with a boost!
